Every year we host an annual meeting where everyone is welcome to join and current members are able to vote on new board nominees.
The board meets virtually every other month. All are welcome. Please reach out to boardchair@nlcbaa.org with any questions. The most recent version of our bylaws can be found here.
Hol Ry!
We appreciate all of you that were able to join us on Friday for our annual meeting. It was great to gather together and talk about all that has been accomplished this year and all that we look forward to coming soon. If you weren’t able to join us or you need a refresher on all the amazing opportunities in which to be involved, read on! The slides, minutes, and a recording of the annual meeting can be found linked at our website nlcbaa.org.
First of all, we want to welcome our new board member - Steph McDaniel. We are so excited to have her back on the board to share her own experiences and passions with us. We also thank Cynthia McClure Hagan for her 6 years serving on the board and all of the contributions she made, especially to the canoe base property needs. Besides playing an absolutely integral role in accomplishing building a new equipment building, she gave time and wisdom in so many ways.
We are working towards replacing the current showerhouse with a new building in the next year or two. If you have experience in building design, or even if you just want to make a new building a reality, we would love your help! Reach out to Steph McDaniel with any questions or suggestions.
We are always looking for ways to spread the word about our amazing wilderness program for Girl Scouts. We would love for alumni to reach out to their local council to discuss opportunities to get troops on canoe trips. We also need great outdoorsy young adults to lead our canoe trips. Can you reach out to local colleges or attend outdoor job fairs on our behalf? Spread the word on social media or through conversations with people locally. We are happy to give you all the necessary supplies to make it happen. All you need to do is send an email to Ann McNally through mcnally.ann@gmail.com.
Gather together your old canoe base friends and organize a catch up in your local area. It can be just for dinner or for a weekend, it’s up to you! Once you have decided on a date, share it with us and we can help spread the word through our social media pages or in the newsletter. Email boardchair@nlcbaa.org to let us know your plans.

Join us at the canoe base for one of our work weekends scheduled for next summer. Exact work dates will be confirmed in the spring but are typically late May/early June. This year the team plans to support the replacement of the culvert along the yurt path and rebuild the path as needed, erect new shelters for the white pine campsites, and do other seasonal cleaning and sprucing as needed. More info to come!
We are so grateful for all our generous donors both in time and money. If you work for an organization who matches employee donations or volunteer hours, we will be happy to supply the necessary paperwork to allow your employer to match your donation. Just send an email to fundraising@nlcbaa.org. You can also now use Facebook fundraisers to raise money when you are having a birthday or a special celebration. All you have to do is click on the fundraisers tab in Facebook and you can select the NLCBAA as your chosen non-profit.

We got a chance to hear briefly from Abby, one of the Hudson Bay Girls, who just completed 80 days and 1,300 miles of paddling and portaging from Lake Superior to Hudson Bay this summer. Abby and Olivia both are alumni who guided in 2023 and were joined by Helena and Emma who were also both Girl Scouts. They used their platform to spread the word about Girl Scouts and about the Northern Lakes Girl Scout Canoe Base specifically, as well as to advocate for continued protection for the Boundary Waters and the clean water systems around it. We are so proud of these amazing wilderness warriors!
Missed the meeting and want to see the slides? You can find them here.
Thank you for all your support of the NLCBAA!
